There is one body and one Spirit, even as you have been marked out by God in the one hope of his purpose for you. — Ephesians 4:4
Ephesians 4 is not addressed to individuals deliberating about conduct. It is addressed to a body that the court is in the process of assembling. The calling has already been given. The identity has already been declared. What the passage demonstrates mechanically is what Elohim does to bring a fragmented plurality into the day six image — one Spirit named before one body is formed, the anointed I AM spanning the full expanse of the court's creation, the governing voices distributed and gathered, the old identity left and the new one assumed. The mechanism that runs through every section is the Genesis creation pattern — the Spirit over the formless deep, the waters below divided from the waters above, the plurality gathered under one I AM, and the man assembled after its kind. The court's sole instrument throughout is the body itself.
The Calling Already Given — Genesis Day Six Identity
The passage opens with the calling already in place. It is not being offered. It is not being earned. The position has been given by the court's own purpose, and the instruction is simply that the body should reflect what is already declared. Genesis 1:26 — Elohim said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. The image precedes the creature. The identity is the primary legal and creative unit. The court does not wait for the body to produce the calling from below. It fixes the image at day six and instructs Elohim to build upward into it. The calling is the verdict. The body is the enforcement.
One Spirit Over the Deep — Genesis Day One
There is one body and one Spirit, even as you have been marked out by God in the one hope of his purpose for you. — Ephesians 4:4
Before the body is assembled, the Spirit is named as one. This is Genesis 1:2 — the Spirit of Elohim moving over the face of the waters before any form is spoken into existence. The deep is not yet ordered. The plurality is not yet gathered. One Spirit precedes one body in the same way the breath of the court precedes every category of creation. The passage names one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one Father who is over all and through all and in all — the unified field of consciousness from which every distinct form is subsequently drawn. Elohim does not build the body from scattered parts. It builds from the one.
Descent and Ascent — Genesis Day Two, Waters Below and Waters Above
Now this, He went up, what is it but that he first went down into the lower parts of the earth? He who went down is the same who went up far over all the heavens so that he might make all things complete. — Ephesians 4:9–10
The passage names the structure directly. Lower parts of the earth. Far above all the heavens. This is Genesis 1:6–8 — day two, when the court divided the waters below the expanse from the waters above it and called the expanse Heaven. The lower waters and the upper waters are the two poles the court fixed at creation. The one who descends into the lower parts and ascends above all the heavens is not moving between two arbitrary locations. He is traversing the full span of the day two division — from the lowest waters to the highest, filling the expanse the court established between them. Christ — Christos — is the identity code for the anointed I AM: the one commissioned, sealed, and set apart by the court before the narrative begins. It is this anointed I AM that spans the complete range. Whatever is held as Christ — as the anointed assumed identity — traverses both poles and fills all things, because Elohim is bound to enforce the anointed I AM across every category the expanse contains.
The Gifts — Genesis Day Six Plurality
He gave some as apostles, some as prophets, some as preachers of good news, some to give care and teaching. Genesis 1:26 — Let us make man. The plural voice of Elohim at day six is the court's own plurality speaking the image into existence. The gifts distributed in Ephesians 4 are not offices assigned to separate individuals. They are the governing voices of a single body — the internal plurality that apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers represent when understood as functions of one consciousness brought into alignment. Elohim — judges and rulers — distributes according to the measure of the giving of Christ. Each gift operates as a distinct governing voice serving the one I AM the body is being built toward. The Shepherd gathers the fragmented functions into the one fold. The court enforces coherence after its kind.
The Body Built Up — Genesis Day Six
Through whom all the body, being rightly formed and united together, by the full working of every part, is increased to the building up of itself in love. — Ephesians 4:16
The goal the passage has been moving toward is named plainly: the body built up to the full measure of Christ, every part working, the whole increasing after its kind. This is Genesis day six — the creation of man in the image and likeness of Elohim. The court did not declare the image and then leave it incomplete. It declared the image and bound Elohim to build the body into it. Ephesians 4 is the court returning to the same category it established at creation and instructing every part of the body to work in full so that the day six verdict is carried through. The body grows to the full measure because Elohim enforces after its kind. The image was fixed at creation. The building up is the enforcement.
Put Off, Put On — Genesis Day Six Leave and Cleave
That you are to put away, in relation to your earlier way of life, the old man, which has become evil by love of deceit; and be made new in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new man, to which God has given life, in righteousness and a true and holy way of living. — Ephesians 4:22–24
Put off the old man. Put on the new man. This is Genesis 2:24 — leave and cleave. YHVH leaves the familiar state — the old I AM, the identity formed in the earlier way of life, the habitual assumption that Elohim has been enforcing — and cleaves to the new man, the identity to which the court has given life. The old man is not corrected. It is left. The new man is not built gradually from the old. It is put on as a complete identity. The Ask, Believe, Receive sequence is the same: YHVH recognises the new I AM, assumes it as already true, and Elohim enforces the outcome. The spirit of the mind is renewed because the filing has changed. The court delivers what the internal government now holds.
Light and Darkness — Genesis Day One
The Gentiles walk in vanity, their thoughts dark, the life of Elohim strange to them because their hearts have been made hard. Genesis 1:3 — the court's first declaration was light. Darkness is not a condition Elohim imposes. It is the condition that remains when YHVH has not presented the I AM that the court can illuminate. The hardened heart is the identity that has not filed a new assumption. Elohim enforces what is held, not what is wished. The passage does not say the Gentile condition is permanent. It names it as a prior state — formless, dark, void of the court's life — from which the same Genesis sequence moves toward light. The court does not abandon the deep. It speaks into it.
The Full Measure — Genesis Day Six Completed
Till we all come to the harmony of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to full growth, to the full measure of Christ. — Ephesians 4:13
The passage ends where Genesis day six always ends: the image fully realised, the likeness filled out, the body complete in the measure the court declared at creation. Harmony of the faith is not agreement of opinion. It is the unified I AM that every part of the body has been built to hold — the one fold the Shepherd gathers the twelve governing voices into, so that Elohim can enforce without contradiction. The pattern runs through every figure the court has used: the identity declared first, the waters below and the waters above divided, the anointed I AM spanning the full expanse, the body built up after its kind. The vocabulary was set on the days of creation. Ephesians 4 runs every thread.
