City Metaphor: Biblical Symbolism

The Bible can be seen as a guide to understanding the inner workings of our consciousness. Cities symbolise states of consciousness: organised, inhabited, and shaped by the identities we assume. Present awareness (YHVH/LORD) encounters a state, steps into an assumed identity (Ehyeh/I AM), and Elohim gently brings that state into expression.

Cities as the Feminine Aspect of Consciousness

Here, cities represent the feminine aspect of consciousness. This receptive state does not initiate independently but responds to the I AM that present consciousness assumes. YHVH/LORD explores the mental city, assumes Ehyeh/I AM, and Elohim supports its unfolding according to the nature of the identity.

The city’s structure reflects the identities assumed over time. Thoughts and beliefs shape the mental landscape, and repeated assumptions strengthen it. Elohim ensures the result aligns with the current assumed I AM.

Building and Maintaining Mental Cities

Every mental city begins with inherited patterns—beliefs, ideas, and impressions we absorb from family and culture. Present consciousness (YHVH/LORD) can notice these patterns and choose a new identity (Ehyeh/I AM). Elohim supports this choice, allowing the new identity to gradually shape the mental city.

Change happens through letting go and stepping into a new way of being: YHVH/LORD moves away from old states, embraces a fresh I AM, and Elohim helps this identity become established. The city is rebuilt in harmony with the new way of being.

Adultery and Idolatry in Cities

In the Bible, cities portrayed as committing spiritual adultery (Ezekiel 16, 23) reflect the feminine aspect of consciousness taking on beliefs from outside influences. Present consciousness might not stay fully aligned with its chosen I AM, and Elohim reflects the natural outcome of that state.

Idolatry is when external ideas or pressures take precedence over the assumed identity. When YHVH/LORD doesn’t fully occupy Ehyeh/I AM, the mental city shows signs of disharmony, gently prompting a return to alignment.

Sodom and Gomorrah: Challenged Mental States

Sodom and Gomorrah illustrate states of consciousness where assumptions are misaligned. Present consciousness entertains an identity not in tune with inner truth, and Elohim guides the natural unfolding: collapse and clearing of the old patterns. The fire and brimstone represent this process of purifying and releasing limiting or false beliefs.

This is not a literal destruction, but a reshaping of the mental city. Once the city is cleared, YHVH/LORD can step fully into a renewed I AM, and Elohim supports the formation of a new, aligned city.

The Renewal of Cities

Mental cities can be renewed when present consciousness assumes a clear and aligned identity (Ehyeh/I AM). Elohim supports the manifestation of this new state, creating a New Jerusalem—a city that reflects truth, creativity, and harmony within consciousness.

Israel and Jerusalem: States of Consciousness

  • Israel represents the developing journey of consciousness. Present awareness (YHVH/LORD) navigates challenges, steps into new identities (Ehyeh/I AM), and Elohim nurtures the growth along the way.

  • Jerusalem represents a fully settled state of consciousness. YHVH/LORD has embraced a stable I AM, and Elohim supports the harmony and integrity of the city, reflecting alignment and inner wholeness.

Shaping Your Mental City

We have the ability to shape our inner cities. YHVH/LORD can explore and assume new identities (Ehyeh/I AM), and Elohim helps these identities to take root and grow. Thoughts, beliefs, and feelings are the materials of the city. By gently choosing identities aligned with truth, love, and creativity, we gradually form a mental city that reflects the I AM we wish to live.

Contrasting with the Kingdom of Solomon

The mental city can also be contrasted with the Kingdom of Solomon. While ordinary cities reflect the feminine aspect of consciousness and often require clearing and refinement, Solomon’s kingdom represents a fully organised and mature state of consciousness. Here, present awareness (YHVH/LORD) has assumed a clear and integrated identity (Ehyeh/I AM), and Elohim ensures not just alignment but abundance, wisdom, and stability.

In Solomon’s kingdom, the mental city has been refined through prior growth and learning. The structures are well-ordered, the inhabitants harmonious, and the laws of reality elegantly balanced. It serves as a model of how a mental city can mature when present consciousness fully embraces and sustains a wise and expansive I AM, with Elohim supporting the flourishing of every aspect of the city.
