A Psychological Reading of Scripture

Genesis 2:23: WOMAN

Woman Icon The Way
“This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” – Genesis 2:23

In Genesis, a woman is not just a person. She represents a relational and structural aspect of consciousness — the part of awareness that can reflect on itself, form relationships, and integrate new identity states.

The Rib as Structural Side

The text says that woman was taken from Adam’s rib (tsela) as he slept, not from a bone, but from the side — the structural support of the self. In the key’s framework:

This shows that relational identity is built from a side of present consciousness, a structural piece that allows self-reflection and integration to occur.

Her Name and Meaning

Her name, Eve (Chavah), literally means “life” or “living one.” She is the living, relational aspect of consciousness — the part that gives rise to relational life and inner reflection. Where Adam represents pure awareness, Eve represents the awareness that responds, loves, and nurtures what is assumed within consciousness.

Bone of My Bones, Flesh of My Flesh

When Adam says, “Bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh,” he recognises that everything that appears outwardly originates from what consciousness holds within itself. The rib is the heart of the structure from which relational identity emerges:

Union of Consciousness

The text later says the two become “one flesh.” Psychologically, this illustrates:

  • Present awareness (YHVH / LORD) uniting with relational, assumed identity (Ehyeh / I AM).
  • The governing internal structure (Elohim) ensuring coherence and stability of consciousness.
  • Integration of relational, reflective life into the ongoing flow of awareness.

Reflection and Manifestation

Woman represents the mind observing and reflecting on itself. She is the relational, responsive, and integrative aspect of awareness. Consciousness never acts separately from what it loves and attends to:

“But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” — Luke 2:19 NIV
  • When attention and assumption are aligned, relational awareness (Eve) is receptive and harmonious.
  • When assumptions are misaligned, manifestations carry the weight of inner tension.

Conclusion

In Genesis, woman is self-reflective, relational consciousness made manifest. She is the living side of awareness — the part that can respond, integrate, and sustain life — fully aligned with the laws of assumed identity. She is the first relational structure, built from present consciousness, demonstrating that all relational experience originates within the structural side of the mind.

As Neville said: “Change your conception of yourself and you will automatically change the world in which you live.”
