A Psychological Reading of Scripture

Foolishness and Folly: A Strong Biblical Theme

Foolishness in Scripture is not simply a lack of understanding, but a misalignment in consciousness. It occurs when present awareness fails to occupy the correct assumed identity, leaving the internal governing law to manifest outcomes that reflect folly rather than wisdom. Folly is repeated action without deliberate assumption; wisdom arises when consciousness aligns fully with imagination, allowing the statutes of creation to enforce the desired reality.

The Clamorous Woman: Distraction and Misalignment

“The foolish woman is clamorous; she is simple and knows nothing. She sits at the door of her house, calling whoever is simple, saying, ‘Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine I have mixed.’ But she does not know that the dead are there; her guests are in the depths of the underworld.” — Proverbs 9:13–18 KJV

Here, present awareness (YHVH/LORD) encounters tempting but unaligned states in consciousness. The clamorous woman represents false assumptions and external distractions, while the “dead in the underworld” illustrate the consequences that Elohim enforces when Ehyeh/I AM is absent. Foolishness emerges when attention is given to these seductive but unaligned impulses instead of consciously assuming the desired state.

Foolishness and the Fear of the Lord

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” — Proverbs 1:7 KJV

Recognition of the creative law (YHVH/LORD) is symbolised by “fear of the Lord.” Fools ignore the inner statutes, acting without occupying Ehyeh/I AM, and Elohim enforces misalignment. Wisdom arises when consciousness deliberately assumes identity, aligning imagination and action with the statutes of creation.

Cain and Abel: Misalignment vs. Correct Assumption

“And Abel brought of the firstlings of his flock… And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: but unto Cain and his offering he had not respect… If you do well, shall you not be accepted?” — Genesis 4:4–7 KJV

Abel’s offering represents Ehyeh/I AM fully assumed; awareness presents it internally (YHVH/LORD), and Elohim enforces the aligned outcome. Cain, however, offers without internal assumption, and his misalignment is reflected externally. This is the archetypal demonstration of foolishness: consciousness fails to assume the desired state, and reality mirrors that failure. This contrast foreshadows later Biblical examples, such as Cain and Saul (misaligned, reactive) versus Abel and David (aligned, assumed identity) and John preparing the way for Jesus (bringing attention to proper alignment).

Folly and Repetition

“Like a dog returning to its vomit, the fool repeats his folly.” — Proverbs 26:11 KJV

Repetition without internal assumption illustrates persistent misalignment. YHVH/LORD revisits old, unhelpful states, failing to assume Ehyeh/I AM, and Elohim enforces the corresponding reality. Wisdom, by contrast, emerges when one consciously chooses new assumptions and maintains them, breaking the cycle of folly.

The Measure of Wisdom

“The wise will inherit glory, but shame shall be the portion of fools.” — Proverbs 3:35 KJV

Wisdom manifests when YHVH/LORD consciously occupies Ehyeh/I AM, and Elohim enforces the aligned outcome. Foolishness manifests as shame, illustrating the enforcement of misaligned identity. Biblical contrasts — Cain and Abel, Saul and David, John and Jesus — repeatedly demonstrate how misaligned awareness produces folly, while assumed identity produces wisdom and reward.

Modern Manifestations of Foolishness

Today, foolishness appears as:

  • Reacting impulsively without consciously assuming the desired state (Ehyeh/I AM absent)
  • Seeking results externally while ignoring internal alignment
  • Following trends or external validation rather than directing consciousness
  • Clinging to past limitations, letting habitual patterns be enforced by Elohim

These are all instances of YHVH/LORD encountering the present but failing to assume the proper I AM, leaving reality to reflect misalignment.

Transcending Foolishness

Foolishness is corrected when awareness deliberately assumes Ehyeh/I AM. Elohim then enforces the desired outcome. The clamorous woman, false promises, and repetitive folly are overcome when imagination is consciously aligned and attention is unified. The contrasts between misaligned and aligned states, seen throughout Scripture, illustrate the law of assumption in action — showing both the cost of folly and the reward of deliberate alignment.

Conclusion: Living from Assumed Identity

The Bible teaches that folly is a misalignment in consciousness. By consciously assuming Ehyeh/I AM and allowing Elohim to enforce it, what is desired manifests effortlessly. Mastery of imagination transforms foolishness into wisdom, and all external events faithfully reflect the inner state. Biblical contrasts like Cain and Abel, Saul and David, or John and Jesus serve as vivid examples of this principle, showing that alignment of consciousness is the path from folly to wisdom.
